Beckman Avanti J-E centrifuge

Beckman Avanti J-E centrifuge

The J-E centrifuge accommodates the comprehensive J-Series line of standard and biosafe certified rotors and labware for sample sizes from just a few microliters up-to 4 liters. It generates maximum speeds up to 21,000 RPM (53,300 x g) and offers the capacity of processing up-to 4 liters in under 10 minutes. The J-E’s high torque switched reluctance (SR) direct drive achieves faster acceleration and deceleration with gentle precision that delivers the fastest separations in the shortest run times, performance unattainable by standard high-speed centrifuges. Using CFC-free refrigerants and a maintenance-free vacuum pump to partially remove friction-generating air molecules, the J-E offers better temperature control (-10° C – +40° C in 1° C increments), a more energy efficient system, lower heat output (< 6,900 BTUs) and quieter operation for a comfortable, productive work environment. Chemglass 2L Jacketed Process Reactor with Digital Overhead Stirrer

Chemglass 2L Jacketed Reactor

The Chemglass 2L Process Reactor is a complete reactor system on the Chemglass open air stand. Jacketed reaction vessel with graduation scale on both sides. Inlet/outlet has a tool-free flat flange connector. No Tools Are Necessary to attach hose fittings to the inlet and outlet of the jacket. A low temperature plug and control knob, designated by a blue indicator band can be used down to -60° C. Valves are designed to seal flush with the bottom of the flask avoiding the dead space normally associated with stopcock drains. This feature permits total mixing and draining of the contents of the reactor. The 2L vessel is coupled with a five-neck lid with two vertical side necks and two that have a 10° degree angle. The lid has a flat ground surface allowing it to be greased or used with an o-ring. Inside the vessel is a one-piece agitator, with a body that is made entirely from one piece of class VI virgin PTFE. The smooth machined surface has no seams, joints or crevices for material to collect. The design provides excellent stirring, especially when heavy slurries are being mixed. Stirring power to the agitator is channeled through a dry running mechanical seal that rotates with the shaft, providing for a vacuum and pressure tight seal; maximum vacuum rating is 5 Torr, maximum pressure is 2-3 PSI. Unlike conventional PTFE Bearings, bearing will not “flake” contaminating your reaction. All seals are made using perfluorinated O-rings providing outstanding resistance to the most aggressive chemicals. Bearing seals are rated at up to 2000 RPM. The design allows you to have the flexibility of vertical adjustment and still choose your agitator diameter and style. Bearing has a ferrule and locking nut to ensure that the seal rotates properly. Caron Products 7404 series GelJacket CO2 incubator with CRSY 102-1 condensate recirculating system

Caron Products 7404 series

Caron’s GelJacket is a high-volume, controlled humidity CO2 incubator that replaces conventional water jacketed units as the benchmark for critical culture protection. GelJacket offers precise gVapor controlled humidification, as well as a rapid 90° decon cycle for fast chamber cleaning. These standard features save energy and user time, as opposed to contamination-prone water pan-based systems and high temperature or complicated competing decontamination processes. Caron’s proprietary thermal gel insulation provides power outage temperature protection equivalent to water, with minimal maintenance, and at a fraction of the weight. Leaks and regular jacket fillings are now a thing of the past. By filtering both stored tap or instrument-grade water and unit drain water, the CRSY system allows you to locate humidified chambers where they’re needed. It produces Type II equipment-grade water, and has a 7-gallon storage tank capacity. The dual filtration process will help avoid expensive whole-lab water systems, bottled purified water, and retrofitted floor drains. Closed-loop recirculation also eliminates constantly sending wastewater down the drain. Click here for more details.

Tuttnauer 3870E tabletop autoclave

Tuttnauer 3870E tabletop autoclave

The Tuttnauer 3870E – B/L autoclave is designed as a gravity displacement system for the sterilization of wrapped and unwrapped instruments and related items found in dental, medical and veterinary clinics, first aid rooms, hospitals, laboratories, etc. This autoclave is an electrically heated sterilizer using steam as the sterilizing agent. A computerized control unit ensuring a fully automatic sterilization cycle, control and monitoring of physical parameters and a clear documentation of the sterilization cycle controls the autoclave. The 3870– B/L has three automatic programs, according to the material to be sterilized, and one auxiliary drying program. A water pump is installed between the water reservoir and the chamber. This pump guarantees fast and accurate filling of the chamber every time. Entry of water may be accompanied by a noise for approximately 30 seconds. This is normal noise generated by regular operation of the pump. The control system provides adequate protection to ensure the safety of personnel and reliable operation with a minimum of shutdown time. Click here for pictures, a video, and more specifications.

Thermo Forma 3940 refrigerated environmental chamber

Thermo Forma 3940 refrigerated environmental chamber

Thermo Forma Reach-in refrigerated incubator chambers are perfect for applications that require temperature control below and/or above ambient, e.g. storage, testing, and incubation at low temperatures. The refrigerated incubator chambers meet International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) guidelines for drug substance and product storage testing. The units are ideal for drug stability studies, shelf-life testing for packaged products, insect and other large-scale biological research. These chambers feature a 0°C to 60°C (32°F to 140°F) temperature range that can be set in 0.1°C increments. The broad temperature range, and optimum temperature uniformity and recovery contribute to an ideal test environment, even when the chamber contains large product loads and low-output, heat-generating equipment. They also feature a humidity control system, which allow you to set the RH level between ambient and 95% in 1% increments. The humidity system requires a water purity in the resistance range of 50K to 1M Ohm/cm, or a conductivity range of 20.0 to 1.0 uS/cm. The water source can be either pressurized (up to 40PSI) or unpressurized. If an in-house water supply of the required purity range is not available, an alternate method can be used.  A large, vended carboy (5 gal. minimum) of water in the required purity range can be placed on top of the unit. This combination directs air across the surface of each solid shelf. Even when filled with samples or equipment, each shelf receives a consistent flow of conditioned air for optimum temperature uniformity and recovery. As opposed to a horizontal airflow system, top-to-bottom (non-directed) airflow systems use a top-mounted fan to push air down through wire shelves. Temperature uniformity and recovery can deteriorate quickly when shelves are filled because air movement is blocked. That variation in temperature, alone or when combined with frequent door openings, may compromise environmental conditions, or make process validation difficult. Click here for more details.

American Instrument Exchange provides repair services for laboratory freezers, laboratory refrigerators, lab incubators, benchtop autoclaves, centrifuges, ultralow freezers, shakers, ovens, freeze dryers, and more!

How Does it Work?

American Instrument Exchange is available to repair a wide variety of equipment in our fully stocked facility. We can schedule and coordinate pick up and transportation of your malfunctioning equipment to our shop.

With hourly rates lower than most OEM service providers and no travel time for service representatives, repair costs can be reduced. Additionally, our lab depot repair service reduces or sometimes eliminates scheduling-related delays. Our depot repair facilities are staffed by service technicians who are qualified and experienced and can restore your equipment’s performance to factory specifications.

After receiving the instrument our trained technicians will evaluate the machine and send a report detailing diagnosis, repair options, and anticipated costs. Preliminary triage testing is carried out by our skilled technicians in order to identify the reported issue as well as any additional flaws.

If possible, OEM parts are used to replace of any defective parts that are found to be underperforming. If we can’t find OEM parts, alternatives will be sourced.

Once repairs are complete, we fully test the instrument using calibrated recorders to verify proper function, making sure all controls and readouts are accurate and that the equipment works to specification.

We then arrange for or coordinate the return of your equipment in the safest manner possible to ensure that it works as promised. All repair work is fully covered by our 90-day warranty.

One piece of equipment going down can cause a huge impact on your lab’s productivity. Unless you have in-house technicians with experience, your lab may be most efficient and cost-effectively repaired by using a depot repair service.

Laboratory Equipment Repair in Massachusetts.

Why should you outsource your repair work to a depot service?

The majority of the time, no one on the lab staff will have the technical or mechanical expertise necessary to successfully carry out equipment maintenance and repair. They may, at best, have a lot of user experience and be able to perform routine maintenance, calibrate the instrument, and make minor repairs. However, when problems arise that go beyond their capabilities or the problems necessitate special tools, it’s time to call a professional. The only way to guarantee a high-quality and effective repair would then be to hire a specialized service company.

Depot repair businesses will be able to fix equipment better and more quickly than lab staff unless an organization is large enough to justify employing a full-time specialist in equipment maintenance and repair. Even if a repair isn’t technically complicated, it might still take too long to do internally. For instance, conventional approaches can take an excessive amount of time to locate a pinhole leak in the vacuum system of a freeze dryer. The expertise and specialized equipment of third-party repair companies will speed up the troubleshooting and repair procedures.

Laboratory Equipment Repair in Massachusetts.

Aside from the additional downtime, delegating the repair to an unqualified employee may exacerbate the issue. The employee may accidentally aggravate the issue or damage other process components if they lack the necessary expertise. As a result, in addition to paying for the initial issue, the lab must also cover the additional downtime caused by the new issues.

Not only are depot service providers much less likely to exacerbate the issue, but they will also be able to remedy their mistakes, if they do.

Depot repair vs. field service

Here are a few scenarios where using a depot repair service is better than going with the original equipment manufacturer:

  • Your equipment’s warranty is expired or invalidated
  • OEM service calls include pricey travel time
  • Your equipment is no longer supported by the OEM because it’s a few generations old
  • It can take a long time to get an OEM service technician to your lab, leading to longer downtime

Utilizing American Instrument Exchange’s depot repair service can provide faster turnaround times and easier scheduling.

More efficient scheduling

Having a single point of contact for all events related to service can save you a lot of time and money because you won’t have to coordinate scheduling with multiple companies. OEM’s often have local independent service providers come in and do the repair work. Doing so requires multiple steps in scheduling, leading to increased wait time, which leads to decreased production.

Considerations for choosing a depot repair service:

Reputation – Pay close attention to the testimonials on the company’s website and Google reviews. If the majority of reviews are favorable and there are no recurrent complaints, the business is probably a good choice.

Expertise – Make sure the service provider you’re thinking about hiring specializes in the equipment you need fixed. Among the broader selection of supported products, some service providers specialize in repairing equipment in particular categories.

Affordability – If the company is far away, you might have to pay more for an on-site service call. Your instrument’s downtime will also increase as a result of the travel time, costing you more money and delays.

Why should you choose American Instrument Exchange?

American Instrument Exchange’s depot repair service is a great fit for equipment that has been in storage for an extended period of time, inoperable, or simply “shelved” for years.  We check all the boxes when it comes to what you should want and expect in a depot repair service.

Looking to save big on lab equipment costs?  Learn how to make your lab budget go further in this guest post from Prendio Supplier Partner, American Instrument Exchange (AIE):

General purpose lab equipment can be expensive to procure and maintain. But with American Instrument Exchange, labs can purchase high quality refurbished, recent vintage lab equipment with savings of 40% to 60% lower than the price of comparable new models.

American Instrument Exchange has been buying and selling laboratory equipment since 1969. Family owned and operated, AIE serves over 20,000 customers worldwide including biomedical, medical research, chemical, major pharmaceutical companies, biotech startups, and university and hospital research laboratories, major breweries and microbreweries, cannabis startups, and academic labs. American Instrument Exchange’s facilities include a fully-equipped shop where trained technicians test equipment prior to shipping. All equipment is decontaminated, cleaned and comes with a warranty.

So how can AIE save you money? Well, let’s say you’re looking for a stack of Thermo Heracell VIOS 160i CO2 incubators. The cost on two chambers from Thermo Fisher Scientific has a current list price $12,701 per chamber and 43-day lead time. From American Instrument Exchange, this same equipment is $4,900 per chamber, or $9,000 per stack, and can be available to ship in a week.

How about an ultralow freezer? A Thermo TSX60086 has a list price of $32,383 and a 40-day lead time. Compare that to American Instrument Exchange – they list the TSX60086 at $12,000 and it’s available to ship in one to two weeks.

For an entire cell culture lab package, including a biosafety cabinet, benchtop centrifuge, floor model centrifuge, refrigerator, freezer, and cryogenic storage, an analytical balance, an inverted microscope, glassware washer, and assorted benchtop items like water baths, pipettes, vortex mixers, new pricing will balloon to almost $250,000.

From American Instrument Exchange? Approximately $98,000.

That’s a savings of 60%, or $152,000. That’s over one hundred thousand dollars to spend on personnel, or extending your runway, or any other expenditures you choose.

American Instrument Exchange’s knowledgeable sales staff is available to help you select the right equipment for your lab and to provide information on pricing, availability, condition, and shipping and delivery options for your lab.  For customers in New England, they can offer white glove, inside delivery service.
