Used and refurbished lab equipment available from American Instrument Exchange. Click HERE for more details.

We are the preferred supplier for used and refurbished equipment to customers worldwide in a variety of industries, including major pharmaceutical companies, rock-star biotech startups, major breweries and microbreweries, cannabis startups, academic labs, and more. This past month we shipped PCR enclosures to a customer in Maryland, two analytical balances to a research facility in Delaware, a Sutter pipette puller to a university in California, and a variety of equipment to a start up in Canada. But in addition to this global network a significant portion of our business is still centered in and around the biotech cluster in Cambridge and Boston that we call home. Below are some examples of used and refurbished lab equipment that we shipped to local customers last month.

  • Two high-capacity Sartorius toploading balances to a local cannabis testing facility
  • A Baker SG603TX total exhaust biosafety cabinet to an infusion center. The Baker SG603TX will be used in the manufacturing of IV and infusible medication for vulnerable patients.
  • Four Kewaunee Supreme Air chemical fume hoods to a contract research and development facility. We also supplied base cabinets with all four of these units and our movers set the hoods in place on the cabinets in the lab so that they are ready for plumbing, electrical, and duct connection.
  • A Thermo CryoPlus 2 autofill liquid nitrogen storage system to a pharmaceutical company. We also sent a tech down to connect this unit to the LN2 source at the facility – if you’re looking for lab equipment set up and installation, call us with the details.
  • A New Brunswick Innova 42 incubator shaker to a cancer immunotherapy startup.
  • Two water baths, a general purpose VWR incubator, and a Mettler analytical balance to a sterile product development lab

So if you’re in and around Cambridge and Boston and you’re in the market for used and refurbished lab equipment, give us a call or email. You’re always welcome to come by the warehouse and check out what we have in stock and available. And if you’re not local that’s fine too: we utilize a huge network of freight carriers in order to quickly and safely ship lab equipment across the USA and around the world. Thanks!

We love these shakers – they’re big, durable, easy to use, and great for a wide variety of applications. We especially like the model 15000-1 VWR orbital shaker because it’s a good unit for brewery labs – and we always love to provide discounted pricing in exchange for beer!

In all seriousness, this is a terrific option with a huge volume capacity and 150lb weight capacity. In addition to brewery applications such as agitating wort, this shaker can be used for solubility studies, extraction procedures and cell cultures.

We have these VWR Advanced Orbital Shaker set up with a 24” x 36” universal platform with seventy 250mL flask holders. (We may be able to provide different flask holders – call or email us for availability). The shaking orbit is 25mm while the speed can be set anywhere from 15 to 500rpm.

VWR Advanced Orbital Shaker.

We’re also very impressed with the Accu-Drive system. VWR literature claims that this system helps the shaker maintain speeds to within 1% of the setpoint even when the weight of the load changes. We thought this might be VWR talking a big game, but when we experimented with some 10kg weights and a tachometer the shaker was able to maintain the setpoint rpm even as weight was added to the platform mid-run.

Another nice feature is the ability to run in a wide range of ambient environments, including temperature ranges from -10°C to +60°C, and in up to 20% CO2 concentrations, so this shaker can run in cold rooms or large-chambered cell culture incubators.

So if you’re looking for a dependable, high-capacity orbital shaker, please consider the VWR Advanced model 15000-1 and give us a call or email. All of our equipment is used and reconditioned. Our technicians test all equipment to confirm that it operates properly and to the manufacturer’s specifications. If you have particular testing requirements or requests please let us know and we’ll work with you to make sure these requirements are addressed during testing. Unless otherwise indicated all of our equipment comes with a 90 day warranty. Thanks!

Click here to see the used and refurbished Biogenic Systems 2101 from American Instrument Exchange.

If you read our post on refurbished cryopreservation equipment, the Custom Biogenic Systems 2101 is a controlled rate freezer designed for sample prep and to closely monitor the rate of temperature drop in a set of samples in order to preserve cell suspension and prevent dehydration and ice-crystal formation during the freezing process.

While this might sound complicated, part of what we like about the 2101 is that at it’s core it’s simple: a very small, very limited amount of LN2 is allowed into the chamber, it evaporates, and a fan distributes the vapor throughout the chamber. Now obviously there’s more to it than that but this is the essential feature.

Biogenic Systems 2101.

The built-in computer offers a wide range of programming options as well as memory storage for data on previous freeze runs and while the menu and interface look a little old school it is straightforward and easy to use. The multi-color graphing of sample, chamber, and program temperature creates a good record of performance.

These units can be set up on existing lab benches or installed on a rolling cart. Either option is fine, but because you need to connect these units to a liquid nitrogen tank we prefer the rolling cart – it just allows for a little bit more flexibility.

If you have any questions about the Custom Biogenic Systems 2101 controlled rate freezer please give us a call or email today. We’re happy to provide info on pricing, availability, and condition of the models we have in stock. Thanks!

It certainly feels like spring has sprung these past few days in Greater Boston and we’re all happy to be out from under another winter. Not that winter has ever stopped us from procuring quality used lab equipment selling it to our customers at great prices! See below for information on recent arrivals to our Haverhill, MA warehouse.

Even more Baker SG403 and Baker SG603 biosafety cabinets arrived in March. As of this writing we have over 25 of the Baker SG403/SG603 units in stock and available. In total, we have OVER 100 BIOSAFETY CABINETS currently in stock.

Baker SterilGARD III SG403.

We also received a couple of nice large capacity CO2 incubators, both of which we mentioned in an earlier blog post. The Shel-Lab model SC031 is a 31.4 cubic foot capacity unit designed for use with roller apparatus. The VWR 1917 is slightly smaller at 28 cubic feet and has built-in channels on the floor to accommodate roller apparatus.

The Rainin E4 XLS pipettes are more expensive that most single channel pipettes, but for a good reason: they feature multiple modes for most pipetting needs, memory to save common protocols and reduce human error, intuitive operation and joystick graphical navigation. We have plenty in stock to make a whole set.

For floor model centrifuges, the Thermo Sorvall RC BIOS and Thermo Sorvall HT6 are relatively recent model units. We are selling both of these units as a package with a rotor. The Thermo RC BIOS has a Fiberlite F8-6x1000y rotor with 6 x 1L capacity while the Thermo HT6 has an RP6 swinging bucket rotor with windshield body and lid. Please check out our website for more specifications and details.

Lastly, we have a Labconco FreeZone 6L benchtop lyophilizer. This is an older model vintage unit, but it’s in very good condition and works to specification. Ports and a vacuum pump are included.

While this isn’t a comprehensive list of new arrivals it at least gives you an idea of what’s been coming in lately. VPlease let us know if there’s any lab equipment you’d like to see us offer more frequently, or if there are particular models you’re looking for – we’re happy to keep our eyes and ears open and call you the next time we have one in stock. Please call or email us any time with questions. And of course you can always view our full inventory at www.americaninstrument.com. Thanks a lot, hope to hear from you soon!

Click here to see used and refurbished Buchi R-210 rotary evaporators available at American Instrument Exchange.

For the foreseeable future we are planning to always have several Buchi R-210 rotary evaporators in stock and available in our warehouse just north of Boston. Why? Because these are dependable, durable systems that can be customized with a variety of different vacuum controllers, vacuum pump, baths, and glassware configurations depending on the needs of your particular lab or application.

Buchi R-210 system with enclosure

For example, we have Buchi R-210 systems with the V-850 controller and some with the V-855 controller. The V-850 controller is great – a real improvement over the older V-800 models in large part because of the large display screen. The menu navigation and single control knob take some practice and getting used to, but it’s not a particularly steep learning curve. The V-850 has a pre-loaded solvent database, a timer for process termination, and is equipped with a USB port and RS-232/RS-485 interfaces. The V-855 has all of these features as well as a gradient and repetition function for gentler distillation and the EasyVac function for automatic evaporation based on vapor pressure detection.

Buchi R-210.

Vacuum pumps are another component that can be swapped around. The Buchi R-210 is compatible with both the V-700 and V-710 pumps. The V-700 is a smaller, more basic option with a suction volume of 1.8m3/h and absolute vacuum of 10mbar, which is compatible with most lab applications. The V-710 pump is a larger version with 3.1m3/h and an absolute vacuum of 2 mbar. The R-210 can be equipped with either of these pumps, depending on the needs of your application.

We also have enclosures available for the Buchi R-210. For example, the AirClean AC23824TE is perfect for a benchtop at 48”W x 24”D x 50”H and is designed to protect from and prevent operator exposure to chemical fumes and vapors when using a rotary evaporator. We can pair one of these with any rotary evaporator that we currently have in stock.

For glassware, we typically equip Buchi units with cold trap assemblies. If you need a condenser or some other glassware assembly for your application please let us know – we can order the glassware and add it to your system at cost.

So if you’re looking for a used rotary evaporator give us a call. We have several refurbished Buchi R-210 units in stock and available. Thanks!
