Click here to see the used and refurbished Baker EG6320 clean benches from American Instrument Exchange.
We have over 30 Baker clean benches in stock and available now! We install new HEPA filters in every clean bench we sell and put the unit through a certification in our shop as part of our testing routine. Whether you’re looking for a single unit for your small operation or several units as part of a big expansion, American Instrument Exchange can get you quality refurbished clean benches at a huge savings.
The Baker EG-6320 is a 6’ wide model designed for pharmaceutical production, research laboratories, manufacturing facilities, aerospace, bioscience, food processing, hospitals, and other research and production environments. The Class 100, ISO Class 5 air cleanliness standard assure product protection with an interior working height clearance of 34”.
The Baker EG-6252 is always in demand. Like the Baker EG-6320, the EG-6252 assures product protection by exposing work done on the bench only to HEPA filtered air. The Baker EG6252s motor draws air through the lower front panel and sidewall section slots. Then the pre-filter traps dust and large particles, after which the air travels through a HEPA filter at an average velocity of 100 fpm before being directed horizontally across the work surface.
So if you’re in the market for a laminar flow clean bench and are looking to save some money, please give us a call or email today. Our prices are typically 40% – 60% lower than comparable new units and all of our equipment come fully tested to manufacturer spec and with a warranty. Thanks!

For over 50 years American Instrument Exchange has been a reliable source for used and refurbished lab equipment. Whether you’re a startup operating on a tight budget or a large company looking to expand operations while maximizing your return on equipment investment, American Instrument Exchange can provide you with high quality cell culture equipment that is tested, decontaminated, cleaned, and ready for your lab.
Cell culture incubators
We consistently stock industry standards like the Thermo Forma 3110 and the newer vintage Thermo Forma 4110 incubators. Each chamber has a storage capacity of about 6.5 cubic foot and are stackable to provide greater storage volume without increasing footprint. These units are water-jacketed to help maintain temperature stability.
If you prefer air-jacketed incubators the Panasonic MCO-19AIC series feature 6 cubic foot capacity and are also stackable. Additionally, these models feature a dual process decontamination routine for effective sterilization in less than three hours for reduced downtime. The digital display has multi point data logging and microprocessor PID controller.
We are one of the only used lab equipment dealers in the country that consistently stocks hundreds of BSCs in our warehouse. Whether you’re looking for one unit for a small lab or twenty biosafety cabinets for a major expansion, we can provide you with a decontaminated and ready to use BSC with new filters, tested and certified in our shop so that it guaranteed to pass certification when it reaches your laboratory.
The Baker SG604 and Baker SG404 models are the latest and greatest BSCs on the market. These units are energy efficient with a redesigned airflow management system that can extend HEPA filter lifespan by up to 30%. We also have Baker SG403 and SG603 models available.
Thermo Scientific has recently introduced the redesigned 1300 series BSCS, which we’ve written about before. These units feature a sleek, clean line design that cut out bells and whistles while retaining practical updates.
We’re also fans of Nuaire biosafety cabinets like the Nuaire NU-425-400 and NU-629-600. Lately we’ve been seeing an increase in demand for the Nuaire NU-425-300 models for labs that have a need for a BSC but face space constraints.

Centrifuges
Most cell culture labs want at least one tabletop centrifuge like the Eppendorf 5810R or the Thermo X1R. Both of these models can spin swinging bucket rotors as well as fixed angle rotors. We still sell plenty of the Beckman Allegra 6R models too – an industry standard for over twenty years, the Allegra 6Rs are some of the most durable centrifuges we’ve had the opportunity to work with.
Sorvall LYNX centrifuge
Some labs require floor model centrifuges such as the classic Sorvall RC-5C Plus, Beckman J-20XP, or Beckman Avanti J-E. For high speed batch processing there’s the Thermo Sorvall RC BIOS with a 6 x 1L fixed angle Fiberlite rotor. And if you want one of the newest, most versatile floor model centrifuges on the market for your lab with have the Sorvall LYNX 6000 in stock and available.
Cold storage
Cold storage is a must have for every cell culture lab and American Instrument Exchange has you covered with fridges, freezers, ultralow freezers, and cryogenic storage tanks in stock. Popular refrigerator models include the Thermo Revco REL2304A, the VWR SCGP3004, and Fisher Isotemp stainless steel exterior units.
And ultralow temperature storage of -80⁰C? We’ve always try to have a wide variety of options on hand, from the durable Thermo Revco ULT2586 to the flashy Thermo UxF and Thermo TSX series. We also have ultralows from Sanyo, Nuaire, New Brunswick, and more.
Cryogenic storage tanks are a great option too – though you’ll need a supply of liquid nitrogen, a good LN2 tank can keep your sample safe and cold even during extended power outages. Click here to see several different options, from small manual fill dewars to giant autofill models.
Inverted microscopes
A quality inverted scope is another necessity for cell culture work. If you’re on a budget consider a Nikon TMS or Olympus CK2. These are older models but durable and versatile, so they’re still popular with many customers. If you’d prefer something a little bit more advance there’s the Nikon Eclipse TS100 or the Olympus CK40. And for those of you that need phase contrast, fluorescence, or other specialized features for your application, just give us a call or email with questions, or browse all our scopes!
Analytical and toploading balances
Mettler is our preferred brand for laboratory weighing applications, with a few Sartorius models also in the mix. Basic toploaders like the Mettler PG5002, MS802S, and Sartorius AZ1502 are always good choices. The newer Mettler Analytical models like the XP204, XP105DR, and AX205 are high quality, but in terms of durability and longevity our hearts will always be with the Mettler AT261.
And for high-precision micro-balance applications, email us about the Mettler MX5 or Sartorius ME5 models.
We also have plenty of miscellaneous benchtop equipment like water baths, pipettes, vortex mixers, hotplate stirrers, and more.
So if you’re in Boston, Cambridge, or anywhere in New England and you’re looking to get your cell culture lab up and running please give us a call or email today. We’re happy to review the options we have in stock and tailor an equipment package to fit the needs of your and your lab. And of course you’re welcome to come to our warehouse and take a look at the equipment in person. Thanks very much and we hope to see you soon!

We always want to make sure that customers are happy with the used lab equipment they receive from us and just as importantly that they are able to use the equipment in a safe manner – we’re happy to provide support and advice on installation and setup when possible as well as copies of the user manuals for any equipment so that customers can review proper usage techniques.
Recently a facilities manager from a biopharmaceuticals company called to say that there had been an accident in her lab: someone who had neither been trained in proper use of the centrifuge nor had read the manual ran the unit with an imbalanced load and/or incorrect plate carriers. The inside of the bowl had been damaged beyond repair.
That is one seriously damaged centrifuge….
Luckily no one was hurt in the accident and the end result was a valuable (though slightly expensive) learning opportunity for the members of the lab. We were able to provide them with an upgrade on a replacement centrifuge.
So when you receive lab equipment please be sure you to familiarize yourself with the proper usage. If you have any questions at all please don’t hesitate to call us – we’re happy to help.

Click here to see used and refurbished rotary evaporators from American Instrument Exchange.
We have several Buchi rotary evaporator systems in stock and available now, complete with baths, vacuum pumps, pump controllers and fully glassware assembly.
This Buchi R-215 system is top of the line, with a B-490 heating bath, V-700 pump, and V-850 controller. The V-850 controller is a major step up from the older V-800 vintage and features pressure regulation to a setpoint, a library containing 43 commonly-used solvents (with the ability to add your own), a timer function, USB interface for data transfer, and control of quick-action jack and Rotavapor rotation.
The Buchi R-210 model is also a great option, with B-495 bath, V-700 pump, and V-855 controller. We currently have this unit paired with an AirClean enclosure designed to protect operators from exposure to chemical fume and vapors when using the evaporator. It’s a space saving alternative to a chemical fume hood.
If you’re looking for something a little more basic and inexpensive, you might want to consider the Buchi R-205. This system comes with a water bath and vacuum controller; we can also include a V-700 vacuum pump. The Buchi R-205 allows users to quickly perform single step distillations in a product friendly manner with the evaporation and condensation of solvents using the rotating evaporating flask.
We can safely ship rotary evaporators anywhere in the country and for customers in Boston, Cambridge, and New England we can offer inside, white glove delivery. So not only will we bring the unit to your dock, we can also bring it inside your lab, configure and set up the glassware for you and make sure you are ready to go. (Rates vary depending on location.)
So if you’re looking for a rotary evaporator but don’t want to break the bank, please give us a call or email today. Thanks!

Click here to see all recently arrived used lab equipment at American Instrument Exchange.
We’ve have been busy as all get out here at American Instrument for the past couple of months, including a lot of really nice equipment coming in from lab cleanouts and customers looking to capitalize on unused or under-utilized equipment. (If you want to convert some of your retired and decommissioned equipment into recovered income please contact us today!) As always we’ve got a ton of biosafety cabinets, incubators, cold storage, centrifuges, and much more available.
One piece that we’re very excited about is a Thermo Scientific TSX2330FA lab freezer. This unit has a temperature range from -15°C to -35°C so it can work for a wide variety of cold storage needs. The large chamber has a 23 cubic foot capacity while the V-drive compressor technology is designed for energy efficient operation. This unit is Energy Star rated.
And speaking of cold storage by Thermo Scientific, this Thermo Revco REL5004A double-door general purpose refrigerator is a great option for labs with a need for lots of storage space. The industrial grade, hermetically sealed compressors are durable and the unit also features high-density CFC free urethane foam insulation for energy efficiency and low operating cost.
We also received a SciCan Hydrim L110W glassware washer recently. This model has a high-resolution touch screen display and controller that easy-to-read and has a integrated data logger to store cycle information. The daily throughput can be as high as 2500 cleaned instruments in a 10 hour day!
We don’t come across many Percival incubators which is a shame because whenever we get one we’re always please with the quality and performance. The Percival model I-30BLL that recently arrived has just under 10 cubic feet of storage space, a temperature range from 2°C to 44°C, and both an interior lighting system and humidity control. It’s ideal for applications like culturing, rearing, and holding test organisms. This could be a great low-cost solution for someone’s environmental chamber needs. =
Two really nice Beckman centrifuges arrived recently – a Beckman Avanti J-E and a Beckman Avanti J-20XP. The J-E arrived with a JLA-10.500 rotor. This unit has a small footprint so it’s a nice option for labs in Boston, Cambridge, or any other location where space is at a premium. The J-20XP arrived with a JE-5.0 Elutriation rotor. Give us a call or email for info on additional rotor combinations and package prices.
Last but not least we have some Nuaire NU-425-400 biosafety cabinets. These are lower cost workhorses that don’t skimp on quality. We install new HEPA filters in every biosafety cabinet prior to shipment and put them through a certification process here to insure that they will pass certification when they reach your lab.
This isn’t a complete least of all the equipment that has arrived at American Instrument in the past few weeks – just the highlights. Check out our new arrivals for pictures and specs of all the equipment that’s come through the door lately. Thanks!

Used and refurbished lab equipment from American Instrument Exchange. Click HERE for more details.
Wow, was July a busy month for us. We shipped a ton of equipment and had a lot of incoming equipment arrive here in our warehouse in Haverhill, MA. August and September are already shaping up to be crazy as well, so if you see any used lab equipment on our website you’re interested in please let us know sooner rather than later.
We continue to be the preferred supplier for used and refurbished equipment to customers worldwide in a variety of industries, including major pharmaceutical companies, rock-star biotech startups, major breweries and microbreweries, cannabis startups, academic labs, and more. For example, this past month we shipped two Mott chemical fume hoods to a cosmetics research facility in Arizona, three 8’ wide BedCoLab chemical fume hoods to an environmental hazardous waste management company in Ohio, a Labline moisture vacuum oven to a drug developer in Pennsylvania, several IEC Model 2K centrifuges to a fish processing facility in Maryland, and a Tuttnauer tabletop autoclave to a university in Texas, among many others. But in addition to this global network a significant portion of our business is still centered in and around the biotech cluster in Cambridge and Boston that we call home. Below are some examples of used and refurbished lab equipment that we shipped to local customers last month.
So if you’re in and around Cambridge and Boston and you’re in the market for used and refurbished lab equipment, give us a call or email. You’re always welcome to come by the warehouse and check out what we have in stock and available. And if you’re not local that’s fine too: we utilize a huge network of freight carriers in order to quickly and safely ship lab equipment across the USA and around the world. Thanks! We always have a lot of equipment in stock in our warehouse just north of Boston, and right now we happen to have several different 6’ wide chemical fume models available.
Back in February we wrote about how much we like Mott Manufacturing chemical fume hoods, especially the chain and sprocket counter-balance sash design. We have two different 6’ wide Mott models in stock, one painted in a beige color and the other more of a grey shade. Functionally both units are the same and both come with base cabinets and epoxy work surface.
We also have some Fisher Safeaire units in stock with modified dual sash panels. These panels raise vertically but also have horizontal sliding access panels that allow users to reach into the unit to safely access equipment or processes during operation.
Another unit with dual horizontal-vertical sash design is the Baker Chemgard-RI. These hoods can be used for routine applications as well as radioisotope applications with precision engineered, stainless steel interior, welded and polished seams and stainless steel worksurface.
And don’t forget: we can safely chemical fume hoods anywhere in the country and for customers in Boston, Cambridge, and New England offer inside, white glove delivery serivce. So not only will the movers bring the unit to your dock, they can bring it inside your lab, set it in place and on the base cabinets.
If you’re in the market for a chemical fume hood and are looking to save some money, please give us a call or email today. Our prices are typically 40% – 60% lower than comparable new units. Thanks!

At American Instrument Exchange we have over 50 years’ experience packing and shipping used and refurbished lab equipment to customers all over the world. 99% of the time everything goes smoothly: after testing and cleaning the equipment we pack it carefully on a pallet, protected with impact resistant sheeting if necessary, strapped and bound in shrink wrap. The equipment is loaded onto an LTL truck or air-ride truck (or boat or plane, depending on the destination) and delivered to the customer’s dock with no problems.
But every now and then, despite our best efforts there’s a different scenario: a shipment gets damaged in transit.
Below are a few tips to protect yourself and your investment when receiving lab equipment via freight shipment.
Inspect the packaging before you sign. Make sure there are no dents or dings to the cardboard and impact resistant sheeting, and make sure the pallet holding the equipment is intact – if there dents or marking this could be a sign of rough handling and potential internal damage. Also look for scuffs and tears on the shrink wrap. If you see any indication of damage to the exterior packaging be sure to note this as thoroughly as possible on the Proof of Delivery (POD) before you sign for receipt of the goods.
Take pictures. In addition to noting damage on the POD, take pictures of the damage/marks on the packaging material. The more documentation you have the better off we’ll all be.
Carefully inspect the equipment. You may find that only the packaging was damaged – good. But if the equipment itself is dented or any glass or small components are broken you’ll need to document this as well. Pictures are best; written descriptions to supplement are helpful as well.
Call or email American Instrument Exchange. We want to make sure our customers are happy with their purchases the equipment they receive from us, and this includes making sure that damage claims are properly filed with the freight carrier for any equipment that is broken in shipment.
If you have any questions at all about freight shipment of used and refurbished lab equipment please don’t hesitate to email or call us today. Thanks!
