We’ve been working with Beckman products for decades and have always found them dependable and relatively easy to operate. The Beckman Avanti J-26S XP is a newer model centrifuge and continues in this tradition.

The J-26S XP is a floor model unit with a 6 x 1L capacity and can be used in a variety of applications, including routine processing and sample preparations; rapid sedimentation of protein precipitates, large particles, and cell debris; preparation of subcellular organelles such as mitochondria, nuclei, chloroplasts, and crude microsomes; separation of blood cells and cellular components; pelleting of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells; gradient separation; nucleic acid precipitation; virus isolation; and bacteriophase isolation, among others.

The addition of the HEPA filter kit makes the instrument BioSafe. Other safety features include automatic rotor identification, vacuum control circuitry, and a temperature control system with automatic temperature compensation unique for each compatible rotor. An imbalance detector monitors the system during operation, causing automatic shutdown if rotor loads are severely out of balance. An electromechanical door lock system prevents operator contact with spinning rotors and prevents run initiation unless the door is shut and locked. The door locks when START is pressed, or when the POWER switch is turned off. In the unlikely event of a mishap the steel casing surrounding the rotor chamber provides operator protection.

The user interface has a digital display, which can be toggled to show either actual centrifuge values or user-entered setup values, knobs for parameter entry, and touch keys. Diagnostic messages on the control panel will light to alert the operator to conditions that may need attention.

All of our equipment is used and reconditioned. Our technicians test all equipment to confirm that it operates properly and to the manufacturer’s specifications. While we can’t test for a specific analytical application, we will do our best to simulate the conditions under which the equipment will be run. If you have particular testing requirements or requests, please let us know and we’ll work with you to make sure these requirements are addressed during testing.

If you need a cost-effective floor model centrifuge please give us a call or email today about the Beckman J-26S XP. Thanks!

We have recently received several Thermo Revco UxF ultralow freezers in stock. We’ve written about these units in the past and are happy to continue stocking them for our customers.

Right now we have the 19.4 cubic foot capacity Thermo UxF 40086 ultralow freezer available, the 24 cubic foot capacity Thermo UxF 50086 ultralow in stock, and the massive 33.5 cubic foot capacity Thermo UxF 70086 ultralow freezer in stock.

Thermo UxF 40086

The Thermo UxF series freezers controls allow for an energy savings mode. When in this mode the freezers may take more time to initially drop all the way to -86°C but once at temp they are able to maintain steadily with much less power draw that most other ultra-lows. Because of the relatively long time it takes for the unit to regain the temp setting after the exterior door has been opened the energy savings mode is a great option for labs in which the stored samples either won’t be accessed very often. The high-performance mode definitely uses more energy but delivers better recovery time and tighter temp control. Getting into some of the more technical, nerdy details, you’ll find that the UxF freezers have a brazed heat exchanger as well as brazed joints both of which allow for more efficient heat transfer and reduced leak potential. The heated door gasket on the exterior door also helps reduce heat loss, as do the five polystyrene insulated inner doors. Environmentally friendly, CFC and HCFC-free refrigerants are also a plus.

All of our equipment is used and reconditioned. Our technicians test all equipment to confirm that it operates properly and to the manufacturer’s specifications. Throughout the challenging events of the past few weeks we have continued to operate as an essential business, providing used and refurbished lab equipment to COVID-19 testing facilities, hospitals, and other facilities.

We recently received several Thermo HERAsafe KS18 biosafety cabinets in stock. These 6’ wide, Class II Type A2 models offer high levels of safety for users and product. They are ideal for use in fields such as biotechnology, microbiology, research, laboratories, pharmacies and hospitals. They are compliant with safety levels 1 – 3 as required in microbiology, biotechnology and gene technology applications. Aerosol-tight electric front window provides ease of sealing for fumigation and a clean sterile environment when the window is closed. As with all our BSCs we’re selling these with stands and new HEPA filters which we install here in our shop in Haverhill, MA.

If you’re looking for a fume hood you may want to consider this 4’ wide Labconco Premier Protector model. It incorporates a sleek interior with a molded one-piece fiberglass liner, the signature feature of Labconco’s leading line of fume hoods since 1961. The one-piece liner of specially-formulated, fiberglass-reinforced polyester offers corrosion and fire resistance and easy clean up. Without seams, the interior has fewer points of deterioration for longer life. We are selling this hood with a base cabinet and an epoxy work surface.

We also received a Labconco RapidVAP dry vacuum evaporation system.  This is an alternative way to traditional centrifugal evaporation methods. Faster evaporation rates are achieved through vortex action, heat, and vacuum. Heat comes directly from a 1000-watt dry block, which adds no potential source of contamination and requires no maintenance. Microprocessor-controlled motor provides smooth variable speed of up to 1000 rpm. PTFE-coated chamber ensures that your system is protected against aggressive chemicals and harsh applications. All mechanical components are isolated from inert fumes to prolong the life of your unit.

We’ve always been a big fan of New Brunswick Innova incubator shakers and so are excited to several different models available, including the Innova 43, Innova 44, and Innova I26.

And if you’re looking for a glass door refrigerator, we have two Thermo Scientific model REC7504 units in stock. These triple door chromatography refrigerators from Thermo Revco are designed for a variety of applications requiring close temperature control, full access to chromatography instrumentation, and easy setup of instrumentation and apparatus within the chamber. Temperature is factory preset to 4°C and adjustable from 1 to 8°C. Icon-based controls and displays include graphic references for universal operation. Audible and visual alarms warn of power failure and temperature deviation of 5.5°C above or 1.5°C below setpoint.

This isn’t a complete least of all the equipment that has arrived at American Instrument in the past few weeks – just a few of the highlights. Check out our new arrivals for pictures and specs of all the equipment that’s come through the door lately. Thanks!
