The isolator is sub-divided into a work chamber that is kept at a more substantial positive pressure than the adjoining interchange chamber, which is positively pressured to the room. This cascade of pressure prevents contamination in the interior. A sliding door and work tray allow the passage of items within the isolator before compounding, while the hinged front window allows easy access for maintenance. Standard minihelic gauges display the pressure in both the work and interchange chambers. Click here for more details.

Buchi R-300 rotary evaporator system

Buchi R-300 rotary evaporator system

The Buchi R-300 rotary evaporator “rotavapor” system includes the R-300 tower B-300 heating bath, F-105 recirculating chiller, and V-300 vacuum pump. The Buchi R-300 features an ergonomic handle with conveniently change the position of the lift, direction rotation speed control for immediate adjustment of rotation speed, and Combi-Clip flask connection. Buchi rotary evaporators allow users to quickly perform single step distillations in a product friendly manner with the evaporation and condensation of solvents using the rotating evaporating flask. Distillations are typically performed under vacuum, which helps protect the product and increases performance output. While specific conditions will varying depending on application, the basic operation of a Buchi rotovap system is as follows: the solvent is heated over a heating bath while the drive unit rotates the evaporating flask evenly. The solvent vapor flows quickly into the condenser and the energy in the solvent is transferred to the cooling medium. And presto bingo, the solvent condenses and collects in the receiving flask. Thermo Scientific is a well-known name in the scientific community, known for providing high-quality laboratory equipment for research purposes. The SteriCycle 160i CO2 Incubator is an innovative piece of technology designed to provide a controlled and safe environment for cell cultures.

The SteriCycle 160i CO2 Incubator is equipped with advanced technologies to ensure that cell cultures remain stable and viable throughout the experiment. It features precise temperature and CO2 control, a high-temperature sterilization cycle, a HEPA filter, and an infrared CO2 sensor that continuously monitors the CO2 level in the chamber. Let’s dive into each of these features and how they benefit researchers.

Precise Temperature and CO2 Control

Temperature and CO2 levels play a crucial role in maintaining the viability of cell cultures. Even a slight deviation in temperature or CO2 can cause cell death or alter gene expression. The SteriCycle 160i CO2 Incubator has a temperature range of 5°C above ambient temperature to 55°C, and the CO2 level can be set between 0.1% and 20%. This range provides researchers with precise control over temperature and CO2 levels in the chamber, enabling them to maintain optimal conditions for their cell cultures.

Thermo Stericycle 160i at American Instrument Exchange.

The incubator uses advanced sensors and algorithms to provide precise temperature and CO2 control. A platinum RTD sensor monitors the temperature throughout the chamber, while an infrared (IR) sensor measures the CO2 concentration at multiple points in the chamber. These sensors work together to ensure that the temperature and CO2 levels are uniform throughout the chamber.

High-Temperature Sterilization Cycle

The SteriCycle 160i CO2 Incubator is equipped with a high-temperature sterilization cycle, which ensures that the chamber is free from any bacteria, viruses, or other contaminants before each use. The cycle heats the chamber to 180°C for 4 hours, effectively killing any microorganisms present.

This feature is essential for maintaining the purity of cell cultures. Even small amounts of contaminants can alter gene expression or cell behavior. By ensuring that the chamber is free from contaminants before each use, researchers can be confident that their cell cultures are not being influenced by external factors.

HEPA Filter

The SteriCycle 160i CO2 Incubator features a HEPA filter, which ensures that the air inside the chamber is free from contaminants. The HEPA filter removes particles as small as 0.3 microns, ensuring that bacteria, viruses, and other contaminants cannot enter the chamber.

Maintaining a clean environment is crucial for maintaining the purity of cell cultures. Even small amounts of contaminants can cause cell death or alter gene expression. By ensuring that the air inside the chamber is free from contaminants, researchers can be confident that their cell cultures are not being influenced by external factors.

Infrared CO2 Sensor

The SteriCycle 160i CO2 Incubator is equipped with an infrared (IR) CO2 sensor that continuously monitors the CO2 level in the chamber. If the CO2 level rises above the set threshold, the incubator automatically shuts off the gas supply, preventing any dangerous overexposure to CO2.

High levels of CO2 can be harmful or even fatal, so ensuring user safety is critical. By continuously monitoring the CO2 level in the chamber, the incubator ensures that users are not at risk of overexposure to CO2.

Applications

The SteriCycle 160i CO2 Incubator is ideal for a wide range of life science applications, including:

  • Cell culture: The incubator is suitable for growing and maintaining a wide range of cell cultures, including mammalian, insect, and plant cells.
  • Microbiology: The incubator is also suitable for microbiology experiments

So if you’re in the market for a high-quality, air-jacketed CO2 incubator please give us a call or email about the Thermo Scientific Stericyle 160i. Thanks!

We’ve recently received several biosafety cabinets, including 6’ wide Labconco Logic+ models, Baker SG503 models, and Nuaire NU540-400 models. All of these are being sold with stands and new HEPA filters installed by our technicians prior to shipment from our shop in Haverhill, MA. All of these are Class II Type A2 models, meaning they provide personnel, product, and environmental protection through filtered air, laminar or unidirectional air, and a motor blower. Room air is drawn in through the front grill of the cabinet. The air is pulled under the work surface and through a back wall plenum through a motor blower. This contaminated air is then pushed into the central plenum, where a small portion (30%) of air is exhausted out of the top of the cabinet through a HEPA filter. The remaining air (70%) is re-circulated back into the work zone through a HEPA filter in a laminar (unidirectional) pattern. The air then splits on the work surface, pulled through the back wall grill, around the edges of the work surface, and back through the front airflow grill, where it is pulled under the work surface to start the air recirculation process.
