Even with our extensive experience with refurbishing and repairing lab equipment, every now and then we come across a piece of equipment that surprises us in its design and capability. The Stirling Ultracold SU780XLE is one of these models.

Most ultralow freezers are designed with a cascade refrigeration system employing first and second stage compressors with different refrigerants. But the Stirling SU780XLE is driven by a compressor-free, free-piston engine that uses 70% to 75% less energy than compressor-based models to maintain -80°C temperature. In addition to energy savings the fewer moving parts mean less wear and tear and less system maintenance, with minimal periodic maintenance needed. What’s more, the SU780XLE uses 100% natural refrigerants and none of the F-gas refrigerants needed in other ultralow models.

Plus, reduced energy usage means plenty of cost savings for the lab – and these days, who doesn’t want to save money with lower electricity consumption?

The modulated cooling capacity eliminates the on/off cycling of compressors and the 100% adaptive control translates into faster temperature recovery after door opening, with an estimate 35 minute temp recovery time to -80°C.

None of this impedes storage capacity, either: the SU780XLE offers a generous 27.5 cubic feet of storage space, which is even more impressive when you consider the relatively small 34.5” x 36” floor footprint thanks to the thin-wall, high performance vacuum insulated panels and non-HFC polyurethane foam using the Ecomate environmentally friendly blowing agent.

So if you’re looking for an energy efficient Stirling Ultracold SU780XLE please give us a call or email today. Thanks!

Looking for a large capacity lab oven for efficient drying applications? Look no further than the VWR 1390FM. This model uses a turbo blower that re-circulates air over the heating element, providing fast heat-up and recovery times, and ensuring a more rapid and efficient rate of drying.

By forcing continuously warmed air into the chamber, the turbo blower assures uniform heating across all shelves and to every area of the chamber, eliminating concerns of obstructed air, regardless of how the shelves are loaded.

To maintain temperature uniformity and stop heat loss, a 8.9 cm (31/2“) thick, double-layer insulating barrier of high-density alumina silicate and high-temperature fiberglass wraps around all five sides of the chamber. A high temperature silicone rubber door seal eliminates air leakage. In addition, the door latch and hinges are user-adjustable to maintain a better seal as metal expands and contracts over the life of the oven.

The independent over-temperature safety is user-adjustable and protects the unit against damage to contents and burnout in the unlikely event that the main controller fails. The sealed membrane touch-pad control panel guards against any harm to the electronics.

Other features include true horizontal airflow design, stainless steel interior, durable powder-coat exterior paint, intake and exhaust ports, and adjustable shelves.

So if you’re looking for a high-capacity laboratory oven please give us a call or email today about the VWR 1390FM. Thanks!

Click here to see used and refurbished Beckman 20R microfuge from American Instrument Exchange.

Eppendorf centrifuges are always very popular with our customers. The Eppendorf 5810 and Eppendorf 5810R models have been among our best selling tabletop centrifuges for years, and we are very impressed with the newer vintage Eppendorf 5910RI and Eppendorf 5920R thus far.

And then there’s the Eppendorf 5430R. This smaller unit is a workhorse – durable, dependable, and able to spin a variety of different tubes and plates. It has a small footprint similar to a microfuge but much more versatility, with rotor compatibility to spin Eppendorf tubes, PCR strips, microplates, and 15mL and 50mL tubes, with a 12 rotor selection.

The Eppendorf 5430R has a maximum capacity of 48 x 2.0mL, max force of 30,130xg, and max speed of 17,500rpm. It is programmed with an advanced operating system, making it more energy efficient due to the smart ECO shut-off and FastTemp pre-cooling functions. The 5430R has a menu-driven, multilingual operation menu with a large backlit display that allows you to save up to 99 user-defined programs and five program keys for easy access to routine programs.

In addition to the standard FastTemp pre-cooling program, Eppendorf high-speed centrifuge Centrifuge 5430 R features the unique software option called FastTemp pro. The FastTemp pro function is available for fast automated pre-cooling based on pre-programmable times and dates. FastTemp pro can be set to a specific date or as a repetitive event on specified days of the week. Simply turn the centrifuge into standby mode when you leave your lab and let FastTemp pro take care of pre-cooling in the morning. This not only makes operation easy; it also saves you up to 90 % of energy overnight.

The ECO shut-off function saves you up to 88 % energy overnight by deactivating the compressor after 1, 2, 4 or 8 hours of inactivity to extend compressor life. This function can be deactivated in the menu settings.

All of our equipment is used and reconditioned. Our technicians test the performance of all centrifuges and make sure the rotating assembly is properly balanced; the bearings, seals and gaskets on the spindle assembly are in good shape; and the controls work properly. If the centrifuge is refrigerated, we also test to make sure that the machine reaches and hold temperature properly. All tolerances are measured and the exterior and interior of all units are fully cleaned.  If the unit is being purchased with a rotor, we test the rotor/centrifuge combination together.

So if you’re looking for a refrigerated centrifuge, please contact us about the Eppendorf 5430R. Thanks very much!

Labconco Xpert filtered balance enclosures

Labconco Xpert filtered balance enclosures from American Instrument Exchange

Labconco XPert Filtered Balance Systems provide user protection by keeping powders and particulates contained during weighing procedures. The built-in blower and exhaust HEPA filter mounted in the upper plenum take up less space than a separate exhauster would require, and isolation supports minimize blower vibration. Since HEPA filtered air is returned to the laboratory, these Labconco XPert filtered balance enclosures offer the added benefit of low installation costs and require no ducting to the outside. Interior dimensions accommodate large micro and analytical balances. Containment-enhancing features ensure that potent powders frequently found in pharmaceutical, dry chemical, mold and asbestos weighing operations are kept away from the operator.
