Used lab equipment Boston – March 2025 recent arrivals

Click here to see all recently arrived equipment at American Instrument Exchange.

Clean benches, cryostats, walk-in fume hoods, environmental chambers, rotary evaporators and more – we’ve had a lot of equipment arrive recently and most of these are high quality, newer vintage units.

We’re already getting lots of inquires about the 6’ wide Labconco Protector Classmate laboratory chemical fume hoods. We have three of these units in stock and available. For customers in New England we can offer inside delivery and set up (call or email for info on fume hood set up). These hoods are designed specifically to meet the needs of instructional laboratories and classrooms, but can be a great additional to any lab looking for a chemical fume hood. These hoods are in almost new condition!

A Labconco FlaskScrubber Vantage glassware washer also arrived recently. This is a great option for contamination-sensitive research. The  Labconco FlaskScrubber Vantage Glassware Washer 422101010 is designed to wash and dry narrow-neck and general-purpose glassware. Able to reach wash temperatures up to 93° C (199° F) which can remove lipids and sanitizes glassware. It’s in like-new condition, Labconco catalog number 422101010.

If you’re looking for a microtome you may want to consider this Sakura Accu-Cut SRM 300 LT. It has a patented multi-colored LED backlit chuck to illuminate paraffin embedded tissue samples making them much easier to see and safer to section. The backlight increases contrast between specimens and paraffin so users can see exactly where the tissue is located to prevent cutting through a small biopsy or previously sectioned block. Again, terrific condition!

We also received another Buchi R-300 rotary evaporator system that includes a V-300 vacuum controller, a B-300 heating bath, and I-300 user interface. These systems are always popular and sell frequently. We include the full glassware assembly with a cold-finger condenser.

We’ve always been a big fan of Thermo products and so are excited to have a Thermo MegaFuge ST4R Plus-MD available. This centrifuge provides faster processing of more samples with a high capacity-to-footprint ratio and simple programming interface, plus the flexibility to run most tubes and bottles on one centrifuge. We also have Thermo Lynx 4000 and 6000 units in stock, with rotors!

We also received several lab benches and workstations, so if you’re setting up a new lab or new workstation these could be good options.

This isn’t a complete least of all the equipment that has arrived at American Instrument in the past few weeks – just a few of the highlights. Check out our new arrivals for pictures and specs of all the equipment that’s come through the door lately. Thanks!

Whether you’re looking for one unit for a small lab or twenty biosafety cabinets for a major expansion, we can provide you with a decontaminated and ready to use BSC with new filters, tested and certified in our shop so that it guaranteed to pass certification when it reaches your laboratory.

Baker SG404 and Baker SG604 biosafety cabinets are two of our best-selling models. Baker produces some of the most reliable BSCs on the market and customers are always happy with the durability and easy function of these models.

Labconco Logic Plus models are very popular. These units are energy efficient with a redesigned airflow management system that can extend HEPA filter lifespan by up to 30%. We have 4’ Labconco Logic+ units available as well as several 6’ Labconco Logic+ options.

Thermo Scientific has recently introduced the redesigned 1300 series BSCS. These units feature a sleek, clean line design that cut out bells and whistles while retaining practical updates.

Cell culture lab equipment centrifuges

Most cell culture labs want at least one tabletop centrifuge like the Eppendorf 5810R or the Thermo XTR. Both of these models can spin swinging bucket rotors as well as fixed angle rotors. We still sell plenty of the Beckman Allegra 6R models too – an industry standard for over twenty years, the Allegra 6Rs are some of the most durable centrifuges we’ve had the opportunity to work with. We also have the newer vintage Beckman V-15R models available at about 40% of the price of comparable brand new models.

Some labs require floor model centrifuges such as the classic Beckman Avanti J-E. For high speed batch processing there’s the Thermo Sorvall RC BIOS with a 6 x 1L fixed angle Fiberlite rotor. And if you want one of the newest, most versatile floor model centrifuges on the market for your lab with have the Thermo Sorvall LYNX 4000 and Thermo Sorvall LYNX 6000 in stock and available.

Cell Culture Laboratory Cold storage

Cold storage is a must have for every cell culture lab and American Instrument Exchange has you covered with fridges, freezers, ultralow freezers, and cryogenic storage tanks in stock. Popular refrigerator models include the Fisherbrand Isotemp Laboratory refrigerator, the VWR HCLS-26, and Thermo TSX units.

Freezer options include PHCBI Biomedical freezers, Thermo TSX2320FA units, and VWR SCMPF models. If you need a lot of storage space we generally have several double and triple door options as well.

And ultralow temperature storage of -80⁰C? We always have a wide variety of options on hand, including a variety of Stirling Ultracold models,  Thermo TSX series ultralows, and lots of VWR ultralow models.

Cryogenic storage tanks are a great option too – though you’ll need a supply of liquid nitrogen, a good LN2 tank can keep your sample safe and cold even during extended power outages. Click here to see several different options, from small manual fill dewars to giant autofill models.

Cell culture lab equipment Inverted microscopes

A quality inverted scope is another necessity for cell culture work. If you’re on a budget consider a Nikon TS100. These are older models but durable and versatile, so they’re still popular with many customers. If you’d prefer something a little bit more advance there’s the Nikon Ts2 inverted scope or the Zeiss Primovert. And for those of you that need phase contrast, fluorescence, or other specialized features for your application, just give us a call or email with questions, or browse all our scopes!

We also have plenty of miscellaneous benchtop equipment like water baths, pipettes, vortex mixers, hotplate stirrers, and more.

So if you’re in Boston, Cambridge, or anywhere in New England and you’re looking to get your cell culture lab up and running please give us a call or email today. We’re happy to review the options we have in stock and tailor an equipment package to fit the needs of your and your lab. Thermo HERAcell VIOS 250i CO2 Incubator – used lab equipment from American Instrument Exchange!

For years we were fans of the classic Thermo Forma 3110 CO2 incubators. So when Thermo released the Thermo HERAcell VIOS 250i CO2 Incubator we eagerly anticipated the chance to get a look at these new models and see if they held a candle to the classics.

And you know what? So far we haven’t been disappointed. The Thermo HERAcell VIOS models are well designed and easy to operate. They can support a range of culturing needs and are at home anywhere, from a small, basic startup lab to a major pharmaceutical or production facility. Let’s take a closer look at the larger 250i model.

Thermo Heracell VIOS 250i CO2 Incubator

Benefits of the VIOS 250i

With 9.0 cubic feet (255L) of storage space per chamber they offer plenty of sample space, but at the same time the footprint is compact and the units are easily stackable. The interior can be configured either with electropolished stainless steel or copper chamber, depending on your preference or application. The in-chamber fan gently distributes clean, humidified air throughout the chamber ensuring homogeneous conditions. We are also impressed with the fast recovery of both temperature and CO2 levels after door opening. Specifications from Thermo indicate recovery of all parameters in 10 minutes or less for stable culturing conditions, but we’ve observed recovery times to be consistently quicker than this. The auto-stop function disables fan operation during door openings to minimize air exchange.

Like the Thermo Stericycle units, an in-chamber HEPA continuously filters the entire chamber air volume every 60 seconds so that ISO Class 5 clean room air quality is achieved in the culture chamber within 5 minutes. This continuous protection minimizes airborne contaminants settling on interior surfaces, preventing contamination.

While we were nervous about the iCAN touchscreen controls, these proved both more durable and more intuitive to use than we expected. The screens are bright and easy to read and the performance trend graphing, error and usage logs are great for traceability. The Thermo HERAcell VIOS 250i CO2 Incubator also features Thermo Scientific DeviceLink HUB, an easy-to-install solution that works with the Thermo Fisher Cloud to monitor conditions inside CO2 incubators.

Drawbacks

Our one criticism of the Thermo HERAcell VIOS 250i is that the stacking isn’t particularly stable. While the old Thermo 3110s, 3307s and 3310s could be attached to a cart or to each other with a metal bracket and bolts, this isn’t an option with the newer units. With the optional cart and platform from Thermo, the rubber feet of the VIOS models simply sit in place. There’s no mechanism to physically link them to the cart, the platform, or to one another. We can see how this might lead to users inadvertently damaging the units while relocating them around a lab, or even just moving them to access electrical outlets, CO2 connections, ports, etc.
