We consistently stock ultralow freezers here at American Instrument Exchange, including models from Thermo Scientific, VWR, Stirling, Norlake, and Panasonic, and more. One feature that is often overlooked when selecting an ultralow is the double door.

What’s so great about double door access on an ultralow freezer? Well for one thing it is better for sample stability. Anytime a user reaches in to one chamber the other chamber remains undisturbed, door closed and temperature uninterrupted, with no temperature spike exposure to ambient conditions.

As an ancillary benefit to stable conditions the double door units often use less energy than single door models because there is a less of a need for the compressors to kick on to recover temperature – the undisturbed chamber has maintained temperature and the chamber that was opened is small and thus easier to cool back down. In other words, the double door feature improves temperature control and increase reserve BTUH capacity, the result of which is better sample temperature stability.

The best way to take advantage of the double door feature is to store infrequently accessed samples in the bottom chamber for longer term undisturbed storage while putting the more regularly needed samples in the top chamber for quick retrieval.

So if you’re looking for an ultralow freezer for your lab please give us a call or email today to ask about the availability of double door models. Thanks!
