We’ve reviewed New Brunswick Innova 4230 shakers on this blog more than once before, and that’s because they are reliable, popular, and relatively cost effective solutions to temperature sensitive agitation needs. So it’s probably not going to surprise you to learn that we’re fans of the New Brunswick Innova 4230.

This refrigerated incubator shaker is about the size of an undercounter refrigerator (24.5”W x 29”L x 36.5”H) and weighs about 300 lbs., so it can be placed either under a work bench, on top of a work bench, or double stacked like a cell culture incubator. Compared to some of the large floor model incubator shakers this unit is a real space saver.

The shaking speed on the Innova 4230 can be set from 25 rpm to 400 rpm for non-stacked units, with speeds adjustable in 1 rpm increments, and audible and visual alarms indicate when the speed deviates by more than 5 rpm from the setpoint. The drive is triple-eccentric counterbalanced, with nine sealed for life ball bearings to make the drive pretty much maintenance free. The temperature range is 20°C below ambient (with a minimum set point of 4°C) all the way to +75°C, adjustable in 0.1°C increments. The shaking platform measures 18”W x 18”W.

A fan mounted along the top of the back wall of the chamber distributes air for temperature uniformity throughout the chamber, and in our opinion this is one of the biggest advantages of the New Brunswick Innova 4230 when compared to some other smaller benchtop incubator shakers. Often the temp uniformity in these models isn’t great (despite the small chamber size), but the fan in the 4230 in combination with the latching door, thick door gasket, and double paned glass window seem to encourage a much tighter uniformity at +/-0.3°C.

So if you’re in the market for a smaller, versatile incubator shaker like the New Brunswick Innova 4230 please give us a call or email today. Thanks!
