We’ve gotten a few calls in the last couple of weeks asking for information on the difference between Buchi R-215 and Buchi R-210 rotary evaporators, so we figured we’d write a blog post highlighting some of the similarities and differences.

First and foremost, both are great products and quality evaporators. Buchi has been the go-to brand name for rotary evaporators for decades, and with good reason: since 1939 the company has offer high-quality, dependable products for use in R&D, quality control, and production in a wide variety of industries. Buchi rolled out the first commercially available “rotavapor” in the late 1950’s and still produces an array of rotary evaporators, from small benchtop units to huge 50L production models.

That being said one big functional difference between these two models to keep in mind is that the Buchi R-215 tower has a built in screen that displays vapor temperature and rotation speed. While this isn’t strictly necessary or required for operation it is a handy feature to have, especially for applications requiring stricter parameters.

Besides that there’s really no difference between the two units. Both models can be paired with either the Buchi V-850 or Buchi V-855 vacuum controllers for optimal process control. Both the V-850 and V-855 allow for control and regulation of the vacuum and have large digital displays. We recommend using these along with a V-700 or V-710 vacuum pump as part of an R-210 or R-215 system.

So if you’re in the market for either a Buchi R-210 or a Buchi R-215 rotary evaporator please give us a call or email today. Thanks!
